CHAPTER 11

Ain’t no use in denying it, if Shine were any happier he’d be twins. He hadn’t thought for a second that Montague would be interested in him, especially since he seemed to believe Shine didn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.

What was even more surprising was the intense chemistry between them. Maybe all that bickering they’d been doing had been nothing more than foreplay. ‘Cuz when they kissed, Shine swore he saw fireworks going off.

Faster than he could ever remember eating, he and Montague finished their meal. As much as he wanted to just put the dishes in the sink and deal with them later, living out here in the woods didn’t allow him to do that. Critters were a part of their lives and if they left out food, it was like inviting them in for a party.

While Shine filled up one sink with water and added a bit of soap, Montague came up behind him. Strong hands gripped his hips as the softest lips Shine had ever known kissed a path from his ear, down his neck, making it harder to stay and do the dishes like he should.

“You keep that up and we’re going to have visitors in the night,” Shine warned, even as he tilted his neck to the side to give Montague more room.

“Huh?” Montague mumbled as he continued to nibble on Shine’s skin.

Shine moaned and leaned into Montague when he bit down on an especially sensitive area. Damn, he so wanted to keep doing this instead of worrying about doing dishes.

Water soaked the front of his pants, startling Shine. “Shit.” He jerked from Montague’s embrace and reached forward to move the faucet to the other sink.

He looked back over his shoulder apologetically. “Sorry, but if we don’t clean up, we’ll end up with all kinds of bugs and probably a few raccoons by morning, feasting on what’s in the sink.”

“Ah.” Montague turned him around to face him and gently kissed his lips. “I’ll wash, you dry, since you know where everything goes.”

Shine grinned. Not many men would have willingly offered to help with the dishes. “Deal.” Then he leaned in and kissed those soft lips, letting the moment linger for several minutes before finally pulling back.

It was weird, but it felt like they’d been a couple for their entire lives instead of only having their first kiss less than an hour ago. Shine prayed he wasn’t letting himself get in too deep only to end up with a broken heart. But like his grandpappy always said, “You gotta risk it to get the biscuit.”

Okay, so some of grandpappy’s sayings were a little out there, but still true.

Shine couldn’t help himself as he gave Montague one more peck on the lips before he had to force himself to step away from that strong, firm body. “Let me just put away the food while you start washing.”

God help him to get these dishes done before he lost his ever-loving mind. Clearing the table didn’t take long since it had just been the casserole dish and a spoon left.
